This is a very Conservative area and Tsubouchi is effective and well liked.

And, of course, it's Ontario's only federal PC seat. In that context, don't expect opponents to get much mileage over the dead wood of dented tuna cans. They can just satisfy themselves with winning as many polls as possible...and they will; Markham has one of the most polarized electorates in Ontario, with the heavily Asian Milliken Mills neighbourhoods the consistent Liberal exception to the Tory rule. The Libs enjoyed a Milliken Mills plurality even in 1995, when their candidate was 46 points(!) behind Tsubouchi.
